continued: People like those you see in this video clip fought for the inclusion of women in clinical trials, for the definition of AIDS for women to be changed, for acceleration of new drug release, for clean needle exchange, for the end to discrimination toward people with AIDS, for an end to racism, homophobia, sexism, aids phobia, for the teaching of safer sex information, for women's healthcare issues, for prisoner healthcare rights. The list goes on and the struggle is far from over.
continued: After being corraled into this dead end area, the Houston police came out of the bushes on horseback. They were waiting for the protesters. Many people were clubbed and hurt. One young man from Chicago stopped breathing after being clubbed. He was revived and taken to a local hospital emergency room where he was refused treatment because they feared he might be HIV positive. Helicopters overhead gave a warning to the police not to club the protesters when the lights were on them.
continued: What you may not know about the people in the video, is that they marched and were funneled into a dead end area outside the Astrodome. The Republican convention was going on inside.
continued: I love this little video of the "March on the Astrodome" It shows a diverse group of people speaking up and fighting back against the governments indifference to AIDS. Most of the protester were from nationwide ACTUP (The AIDS COALITION TO UNLEASH POWER) and QUEER NATION groups. The WOMENS ACTION COALITION (WAC) and many other groups and individuals participated.
continued: Bill Clinton did nothing to help people with AIDS or the spread of AIDS. George W. Bush has been a terrible waste of time and lives. We need a cure. We need a "not for profit" approach to finding a cure. Fighting sexism and homophobia and racism are part of finding a cure. All are unfortunately linked to the disease.
Gee, why don't you two quit pulling each others hair.
We all know that the American government did nothing to stop the AIDS pandemic. Early intervention could have saved millions of lives. That's why Ronald Regan and George Bush senior are hated by so many.
