Minnesota Grown: It's Berry Season

http://www.minnesotagrown.com The long wait is over! Strawberry season is finally here as patches prepare to open for customers. Strawberry farms in southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities metro area are open or will be opening soon. In Northern Minnesota, growers expect their season to begin in early July.

Contacting a local berry farm is easy thanks to the MDA's popular Minnesota Grown Directory. The 2009 directory includes 76 strawberry growers statewide along with more than 700 orchards, farmers' markets, garden centers and other places to buy products directly from farmers. Olympian and Minnesota Grown spokesperson Carrie Tollefson is a fan of locally grown produce. A native of Dawson, Minnesota, Carrie was a member of the 2004 Olympic Team competing in Athens, Greece. ollefson believes that eating right is very important whether you'e a world class athlete or just trying lead a healthy, active life.
