The over-complicated bureaucracy of the corporation reminds me of the Coen Brothers' "Hudsucker Proxy", especially the boardroom meeting with the elderly gent with the listening horn in his ear. Wonder if they saw this before making it?

The cartoon is based on the short story of the same name, which is available from Project Gutenberg. There are a few changes; the most obvious is that the original story is not a poem.
