@futuramaishot Sometimes spinning feels natural so you can stay in balance throughout the shot. If Malisse had taken the ball as a volley he would have hit it out in front and spinning wouldn't have been necessary. However, he let the ball hit the ground first, and at this point the ball was getting behind him. As you can see, he had to hit the ball with his back facing the net, and the spinning helped him maintain balance as well as return to a position facing the net.

You might play, at a very average level and you don't know anything about tennis and you're completely oblivious that this was a natural reaction and if he stayed still he'd have been way off balance and the shot would have likely carried way too much weight.
