Now outfitted with quadrature encoders and digital Sharp GP2Y0D810Z0F sensors, the Scout is ready to explore new terrain. Today Scout handled outdoor terrain, a first for the Colony robots. A front facing and ground facing pair of sensors enable a rudimentary obstacle and cliff navigation routine that prevents falls and collisions.
The grass was an interesting challenge, but not dense enough to trip the proximity sensor. All four wheel encoders are now used for straight line and curvilinear driving.
