  • My friend has a pregnant sow and when they are born what do you do with the umbilical cord?

  • @Sammy55554 Thats a good question. In the movie you can see he was doing something with a string, well that is to tie off the umbilical cord. As soon as the piglet comes out it will be coated in a transparent bloody membrane with some placenta and attatched to that will be the umbilical cord. Pull the membrane off and dry the piglet out a little, then take a string and tie it around the cord about an inch away from the belly, then you can cut the cord. This is to prevent bleeding and infection.

  • We have 4 pigs, we are new to keeping pigs but we are enjoying it..we have 3 sow's and 1 boar, currently 2 sows are approx 3months old and 1 sow 5months just over, and our Boar the same age... when should we seperate our boar from the older females? & can do we have to seperate our 3month old sows from the older sow and her piglets when she has them when the time comes?

  • @lauraashley122 Both male and female pigs reach sexual maturity around 9 - 11 months old so I would separate the boar from the gilts at about 8 months old. Once you have a pregnant sow you won't need to separate her from the others until the gestation period is almost up. When it gets about that time you should put her in the farrowing crate. Its best to keep the crate in a separate pen from the other pigs. Hope this helps

  • Nice Video, well done... I delivered a calf once, it was at night and I was at the right place at the right time. Q: do pigs in most case senerio give birth at night time or it dosen't matter what time nature calls? Q: do pigs, again, in most case senerio give birth during the lunar cycle of a full moon; give or take a few days?

  • @johnnybagofdonets No, pigs really can give birth at anytime. You just have to watch when the sow's water breaks. And no, the moon doesn't really make a difference. Usually they give birth abouth right around the 3 month 3 week and 3 day gestation period.

  • the video makes me want to have oral sex with a pigg

  • I keep my pigs in a natural setting, free range. I have never needed to assist my sow. I couldn't imagine a confined animal being a happy animal but it makes us humans feel safer.

  • SOOOO CUTE :D <3<3<3
