a quick video of my two home servers.

The first black one is an IBM X series 8646 which has got 2x 1.4Ghz and 1Gb of System memory. Running on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.

(not actually being used yet but i have set it up as a domain controller)

the second one has a 1.1Ghz Processor and 512Mb of memory running Windows xp.

this one is just used for my videos, music, program backups and other stuffs along with my Web, email and FTP server.


My Airconditioning is a HYCO FH-204 Fan Heater that is set on cold.


running a NETGEAR WGR614 and VIRGIN MEDIA Modem with 20Mb DSL Broadband.


***UPDATE***
I have just updated my first server so i am now running 2x 500Gb Hard Disks.

  • lot of crap run what ever software u want as long as it does the job u want it to do. fact!

  • thats a good point mate, i dont need it to do much anyway.. i only use my web, email and ftp which i see no need to run on windows server platform when it works perfectly well on windows xp

  • ye, its not that bed. they do restrict my speed between certain times because i use alot of bandwidth because of hosting my sites and stuff. but even when capped it is still fast and download torrents at 200+kbps

  • this seems like an awful awful waste of electricity.. ftp + mail + torrents, my nine year old router can do that, why use hundreds of Watts 24 hours a day to do that? Have it occurred to you that buying a really old laptop would do the same for you? it's 40 bucks max and I've bet that even a year of usage would save you that money in electricity.
