Biblical scholar, Walter Brueggemann, names the primary marks of a Christian (based on Paul's letters) and says that if we worked at those things, the secondary issues would evaporate. ...it's not simply about being nice. A follower of the way of Jesus of Nazareth is to be hospitable, generous, observe sabbath rest, not covet, not be vengeful.

Wonderful.
I had the great privilege of hearing Dr. Brueggemann speak here in Tulsa a number of years ago and had a chance to chat with him briefly afterward. I tend to think he's the most important theologian writing today. His _The Prophetic Imagination_ (the first of his books that I've read) was life changing for me.
