Poland is the only country in the European Union to have escaped recession in 2009. Its limited reliance on exports, coupled with a strong banking system and sound public finances protected the country from the effects of the global economic crisis.

This film takes you through Poland's journey from socialism to a market economy and the challenges it faced along the way. By adopting sound economic policies, Poland is now moving ahead to becoming what some call a potential "economic powerhouse" of Europe.

"One thing we have really learned from the Polish experience is that if the policymakers have the courage to take action in a most difficult situation, they can achieve remarkable things."

-Mark Allen, IMF Senior Resident Representative in Warsaw

  • give Pole a Swiss army knife and a bit of duct tape and he'll build a space rocket for you from it :) the people of Poland had to learn how to make nothing in to something for centuries 'cos everything they ever had was always stolen from them though out history . From generation to generation this survivalist idea has been past on from parent to the child .Polish people are intelligent , hard working and most of all resourceful . Communists tried to kill all that with vodka -they failed

  • yeah.. Sierkakowski, Belka, Gazeta Wyborcza... socialists talking about capitalism. Laughtable.

  • propaganda of success..., nothing common with reality in Poland

  • the most important part i found in this video was the fact that they wrote into their constitution limiting debt. unlike the rest of us that are tied into the imf or whatever you want to call the few people that control this world with unpayable debt. i believe here in canada we pay around 160 million? a day to interest(35?million people) and we are better off than a lot of countries.

  • yeh good luck poland, you never gona make it but good luck .

  • Correction:

"This film takes you through Poland's journey from socialism" -> "This film takes you through Poland's journey from communism". Socialism is not an economic system, not a type of ownership.

  • good for them ,I am czech and recesion hit us big ...so I am glad Poland didnt have to go throught it .......good luck

  • @gettingahandle I agree, they deserve it especially after everything this nation has gone through. I'm just amazed at how resilient Poles are, if you look at Russia, Ukraine and other former communist countries they have not fared well. However, I think is a matter of attitude, because Poles' were eager for chage, unlike the already mentioned countries.

  • i always liked poland after all the shit happen to poland they really deserve it

  • Very interesting material. Things change.
