  • thats when womans tennis was womans tennis, i have no respect for the sport anymore its not the same sport i enjoyed back in 1989-1995 The london people have killed the sport, ya need to bring it back to the way it once was, womans tennis was the best sport out-side of gymnastics. Inspired a lot of woman to become the best tennis players in the world, now the sport is just plain jane like a fish out of water. What a shame. we still have teh classics. thx for the post of good memorys.

  • monica is so special. she's a power player that doesnt make much errors and actually constructs her points

  • Great video love the ending with monica's dad crying...She was back where she belonged..

  • Anke never took a set off of Monica. That is a little surprising to me. Guess Monica had a big mental advantage over Anke.

  • When Monica made her initial comeback in '95, I had this terrible feeling that Monica wouldn't be quite the same player as she was before after 2.5 years. Sadly I was right.... ;(

  • Now when I think about it, as much as I wanted her to win that tenth Slam, at least Monica's true fans got to see her win one more major. It's not that much consolation, but oh well....

Still miss ya, Monica! Greatest ever!

  • I really wish there was a way where Monica could just be on the tour forever! WTA is just not the same for me without her.

  • So it all comes down to money? The tournament director could have turned the event into, let's say an exhibition and donated the money for victims of violent crimes instead of having it continue like nothing happened don't you think?

As for Graf, sorry, at that point, she had won 11 slams and 71 tournaments overall. she could have dropped that one, her standing in the books did not depend on hamburg 93 (which she did not win in the end...)

  • you cannot blame steffi for that but the hamburg tournament director... all ticket were sold out ! i know, i understand your point, but they couldn't stop the event for the public, and probably for the money spent during the week.

  • Monica's giggle when she receives the trophy is really touching.

  • I think no one in tennis faced what she had to face. she did it with a lot of dignity.

  • oh yeah, the class of playing a semifinal in hamburg right after your main opponent has been stabbed is a pure class act... way to go...
