This is great and worth viewing even though the begining 5 seconds are missing. Full orchestra with solo's by Pete Candoli, Graham Young, Al Aarons,Oscar Brashear, Bill Watrous, and Don Menza, etc.

  • A correction on the reference to Merv Griffin's musical director. It was Mort Lindsay, not Jack Sheldon. Jack did play in that band, however.

  • @katella12 .....From VisionsLA...I had to review the posts to see where that was put up. Yes, you are correct it was Mort Lindsay...I would have corrected it if I had seen it. Thank you...Pete and Jack were the best of friends always...great affection for one another. Jack is great...and of course Pete was the best of best, I know!!!

  • Dick Nash: "I don’t think any of us saw the music. We just walked in, and there it was. We were very impressed. It was going to be a TV show, and to have all the good jazz guys in LA involved with it made for quite a get-together. We had Jimmy Priddy, John Haliburton and Karl De Karske on trombones, and Pete Candoli and Conrad Gozzo on trumpets. Milt Bernhart (trombone) did some sessions. And we had Johnny Williams. When he would have a solo, Pete would really get the essence of what Hank was do

  • I saw Henry Mancini's appearance on the Merv Griffin show. He credited Merv's music director, Jack Sheldon, with having played the trumpet lead on the original recording of the Peter Gunn Theme.

  • @SteveFallon1 "When he would have a solo, Pete would really get the essence of what Hank was doing. He gave a tribute to Pete and it was humbling for Pete as he was there from the begining...
