Around 9 p.m. Sunday, May 24th, Baltimore County, MD westside units were alerted for an apartment fire reported on Horizon Circle in Randallstown. While units were enroute, fire dispatch advsed police were on scene reporting heavy smoke showing from a 3-story garden style apartment building. BCoFD Engine 2 (Pikesville career) arrived first, reporting heavy fire was showing through the roof, and quickly ordered a second alarm. As the blaze intensified and conditions worsened rapidly, the Incident Commander pulled crews from the building and switched to defensive operations. The fire tore through several attached units of the building, leaving dozens of people homeless over Memorial Day weekend. The blaze eventually went to 4 alarms, and was not called under control until almost 12:30 a.m., although firefighters remained on the scene for hours to contain hot spots and ensure all the fire was extinguished. One firefighter suffered a minor injury operating inside the building.

  • County Police and the first eingine arrived with flames through the roof, not a kitchen fire. We started an offensive interior attack after arrival; 20 minuets afterwords Cheif declared it to dangerous, and we moved to defensive operations. If your definition of putting water on the fire is using master streams and ladder pipes, yes, it took 20 minuets, it doesnt mean we were not working.

  • Its alot easier said than done. Have some respect. Firefighters sometimes di saving our butts. I have a very high level of respect for these people. Especially because a firefighter yanked me out of my od house when an electrical fire broke out and caused my ceiling to cave in and luckily he go me out about 1 minute before the ceiling caved. It's more important that nobody was harmed. Who cares about the house. Its the lives that matter. Houses are expendable, lives aren't.
