Unfortunately John Wayne died of stomach cancer on 11th June 1979. He was 72 years old.
His cancer probably originated from an earlier tumour found on his left lung in 1964. The lung was removed and John was diagnosed as 'cancer free'. John carried on working and but was often breathless as a result of only having one lung and had to given oxygen during breaks following gruelling scenes. Sadly, his cancer returned only this time it couldn't be beaten. God always be with you John Wayne.

Youtube REALLY has to do SOMETHING to fix this damned post button for comments. I REALLY HATE when I try to post a comment on a video , only to get the " ERROR , TRY AGAIN " message and THEN find that my comment was posted not just ONCE , BUT THREE FRIGGIN' TIMES IN A ROW!!!!

my uncle maybe was sick many times with other health problems and with smoke but really the cancer did not show up until the last minute until almost close to his death. the lungs were already mostly bad long before the spot ever showed up. when the spot came it spread and made his life cut short real quicky. there was very little they could do for him. he fought hard but maybe john and my uncle would have maybe rather died like a cowboy getting rid all the bad guys around them.

you may live a good many years while still smoking and going to the doc but remember it will catch up with you soon or later. expect staying more time in the hospital hook up with breathing machines. needles, taing many pills especially it will be worser if you have other problems on top of it. i've seen my uncle back and forth . he was strong but the cancer one . you can not play with fire all the time. it will catch up to you . only you can make the change . little steps and stay healthy

well spoken john. i wish my uncle could have listen to you more and to me. lost my uncle to smoke. my uncle had lost 40 percent most all his lungs. only was about 10 percent left in his lungs. they had a found a spot on him but they could not save him depending where the spot was and his age. i watch him die in the hospital. he dried up like a prune. after he was dead he looked like someone had been dead for a while all dried up and shrink with his size.

Your doctors are lying to you. After 20 years of such abuse, your lungs cannot be "fine." You perhaps don't have tumors growing there (yet), but certainly your lung capacity is nothing approaching what a healthy person your age will have. You likely cannot run or walk nearly as far as someone your age who does not smoke. Rest assured, smoking related ailments WILL affect you eventually, even if you manage to dodge lung cancer.
I miss John Wayne!!
