A Jeep Wrangler nearly tips on a rock face, and then a Hummer H1 goes up and down the face forward and in reverse without batting an eye... (the longer wheelbase is a big advantage, here!)

  • I dont understand why everyone tries to compare these two vehicles: Theyre fuckin cousins for gods sake (both built by AM General, now AMC). WOW a hummer thats 12 feet long can CLIMB a steep face? NOOOO. Wranglers are half the wheelbase of the hummer. I've seen open diff cherokees go up that backwards. Is the hummer locked or is it at least limited slip? Ive seen so many videos and some of them look like the h1s are actually OPEN differentials? Love H1s now GM butchered it like Chrysler did Jeep

  • @bdahlg HUMMER comes stock with Torque Biasing Diffs; they act like limited slips, but if you lift a tire it will spin and the vehicle will stop. You can trick the diff into redistributing power by riding the brake with your left foot though -- called "Brake Throttle Modulation" or BTM. A good driver who can BTM can get a HUMMER through almost anything. A bad driver who can't BTM can get a HUMMER stuck in the smallest mud puddle.

  • @hmcoleap, If you aint pissin yourself, you aint trying hard enough. ;) lol

  • @kentonlewis Zooks rock. They skip across the mud like flat rocks, and when they get stuck you can just pick them up with three guys and move them... Just make sure you have a good cage!

  • @mediarocker543 Oh, I have seen some short wheelbase rigs make it; in fact, I watched a little Willy's take a line on the far righthand side in granny gears and walk right up it... it can be done in a short wheelbase rig, but it is hairy!

  • @hmcoleap, I can see your point. Some guys run a small winch on the front suspension to suck down and reduce the unload.. but I'm pretty sure if a Jeep got a good angle on it with a good drive it could make it. Not trying to start a hummer vs jeep war. Both have a specific purpose and niche. except the H2's and 3's which are complete trash.

  • This is definately my favorite trail. I have been working with the City of Northampton for over 3 years in order to keep this conservation land open to motorized vehicles. If you are planning a run sometime message me and I will see if I can meet. The best way to find out what is happening there is to join my FaceBook group, "Friends of Sylvester Road". Take care.

  • @zukman89 Just signed up for the FB group... I see Paul is on there already too -- thanks man

  • @DUCKYOU22334455 The H1 does great. That trail is a cakewalk for the HUMMER with a good driver. A stock HUMMER H1 has 16" of ground clearance off the showroom floor, about twice what a stock Jeep has.

  • @mediarocker543 It is definitely steep for Jeeps. The front end unloads, the short wheelbase makes it a very difficult climb. I have seen some short wheelbase vehicles make it, but not many, and it is always very hairy.
