The Sonata and optima are both lighter than the Passat and have 30 more hp in the base engine. You are right about the suspension though, they are not 4 link, but that's only because they are 5 link. Plus the new Azera, which is more in the WV's price and size category uses a 5 link SACHS selective dampening rear suspension made by ZF, which is almost identical to the suspension that ZF makes for the Audi A6.

@micosilver Here is what I think of the new Passat. Styling is too conservative and gas(most car purchases in USA) mileage is so so. New lower price isn't actually all that low either considering number of equipments. It is by personal choice to buy this car, not by its own merits.

@micosilver My point is that getting 43 miles to the gallon isn't all that impressive considering it is diesel. Beside this car is not a full size to correct your statement. I thought it was 43 to the gas gallon in their advertisement. Now that would have been impressive. Fuel mileages with their Gas engines aren't much to brag about. Let the truth be told.

@bsp1148 Here are some facts:
No other car in this segment and price range offers this mileage, with Diesel or gas. Sonata, Camry, Accord, Maxima, Mazda 6 - none.
While it is easy to achieve this mileage with Diesel - VW is the ONLY manufacturer that not only brings efficient clean Diesel to USA, but also builds them here.
Isn't this the truth?
