This is a parody of a scene from the movie "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" where the actors have been replaced with CG sock puppets.
This was made as a final project for VIZA 622 in fall 2008 at the Texas A&M Department of Visualization. The theme of the project was supposed to be "climax". Our group wanted to do the most ridiculous thing we could think of, and eventually we came up with the idea of re-making a scene from a live-action movie using sock puppets. We then decided it would be even MORE ridiculous if we created CG sock puppets instead of real ones.
Starting from scratch, our team modeled, rigged, animated, textured, and lit everything in about 5 weeks. We paid particular attention to the framing and lighting of each shot so we could match the look and feel of the original live-action clip as close as possible. At the same time, we tried to make our "puppet" world realistic. For example, the hands of the puppets have little sticks on them that the (nonexistent) puppeteer would use to control the hands from below, and the backgrounds are meant to look like felt material that was cut out and glued to cardboard.
Brilliant! Why has no one done this before?
