I know the whole point of this video was to advertise the whitener (so they had to sneak that in somewhere), but he did notice her and feel bad the first time he saw her with the dark skin. Then the girlfriend started to act like a word I can't say. I think those were the catalyst to getting him back, the "nice" skin was just icing on the cake.
