About Shorin-ryu Dojo Shotokyo:
Shorin-ryu Dojo Shotokyo is an independent dojo propagating traditional Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karatedo, in downtown Los Angeles, CA. We are a non-commercial dojo, practicing out of the social hall of Centenary United Methodist Church. Although not religiously affiliated with the church, we have strong ties with the Little Tokyo and surrounding Japanese American community, throughout which Centenary has historically played a major role. We train in a familial - yet traditionally disciplined - atmosphere, and frequently contribute to local events in our community, sharing our cultural art through demonstrations and workshops.
The dojo's traditional curriculum is firmly grounded in basics, including eighteen kata (Fukyugata 1-2, Pinan 1-5, Naihanchi 1-3, Ananku, Wankan, Rohai, Wanshu, Passai, Gojushiho, Chinto, Kusanku) and seven yakusoku kumite as handed down by Nagamine Shoshin.
About instructor:
With additional backgrounds in such diverse disciplines as Judo, Goju-ryu Karatedo, and Wing Chun Gung Fu, Art Ishii brings over fifty years of martial arts experience to his instruction.
Preferring to dwell on the commonalities among these and other arts, rather than differences, Ishii Sensei maintains good relations with many high ranking instructors of various systems, frequently offering the floor to guest instructors such that his students may relate Shorin-ryu methodology to other martial interpretations.
We live on this beautiful planet, Mother Earth, breathe the same air, and drink the same water. We are all brothers and sisters and members of the human family.
Life is a precious gift to enjoy, celebrate, and appreciate! Life is a choice, and we need to choose to be happy! We make things happen by wishing them! Ask, Believe, then Receive! Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated! Thank you!
I appreciate the people who can respect our differences and can treat others with respect, gratitude, good manner and positive attitude! Thank you for reading this note, and thank you for choosing to watch my video! Have a wonderful day to you all!
