Higher precipitation doesnt mean i rains more. In the Med' a very high level of rain may fall in a matter of hours and then clear up therefore leaving a high reading of precipitiation. In a place like Aberdeen there isnt so much of this kind of rain, for example a light drizzle for 24 hours would be less than a burst of torrential rain in Milan.
