I don't think they did. Remember, most were in hinernation. U-Mos was the only one awake gaurding the main tower high above the sight. He probably had no idea.

Yea, those galactic federation marines look way cooler than samus. Nintendo should make a metroid game where you play as one of those marines. I think it would have a nice "HALO feel" to it. I know that would defeat the whole purpose of a metroid game (where you always play as samus) but im talking about a whole new franchise.

poor troops didnt know they landed their ship next to an ing nest but they died not cuz they suck but because they were outnumbered by millions of ing ifeel srry for them =[

And moreover...did the Luminoth know the marines were there? They must have. Why didn't they try to help them?

What if Samus had got there in time and the marines were saved? Would they have tried to repair their ship? Would they have traveled to the Luminoth Temple and barricaded themselves in there until they could get off the planet? They'd probably try to help Samus in some ways, but they're kind of limited (I.E not strong enough, can't double jump to reach high areas, can't use morph ball to get into tight areas)...

I imagine the fact that the Marines were caught completely by surprise was a big factor in their demise. There also is the fact that Ing-possessed creatures are more difficult to kill with conventional weaponry. Not to mention the Darklings VASTLY outnumbered them.

To be honest, you really have to hand it to them - even if they were redshirts, the Marines did kill a sizable number of Darklings before they went out. Some of their logs indicate that a few went down with bayonets and bare hands.

Am I the only one who noticed that he sounds absolutely terrified? These guys are just NOT coping well with being attacked by huge alien bugs.

i often wonder how the missile trooper survived. the first time you go to that area, hes not there. he lived until he was killed by something, but it was probably that pesticide stuff from one of the scans, then he died from that and then the ing found him. he must have been really good to survive. either that, or he jumped onto that part on the openeing to where the ship is. i always do that, and kill the ing from there. they cant jump that high XD
