The Mellotron cello line straight after "Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout..". Not sure what Tony Banks did to his 'tron cello sound on the original version (double-tracked?) but I tried to get a similar sound here using a Marshall Regenerator pedal and failed dismally! Still sounds quite good anyway.

  • Now I Know What Is The Sound That Starting The solo Thank you TronFan (BTW You're Great)

  • Thanks for that, glad you enjoyed it... It's good that posting videos like this can help to demystify some of those "what's that sound?" questions that arise from hearing old tracks from the 60s/70s, especially as the sounds giving rise to those questions often come from instruments like Mellotrons!

  • Yeah It's True One Of My Friend got the MEMOTRON (It's a Mellotron that's Using CD) and don't stop to searching sounds I've got another question, The Sound that starting at 0:30 Is That the Intro of "I Know What I Like"?

  • I think it probably is the same sound used at the very start of "I Know What I Like" mixed in with everything else, it sounds like it's also used at the very end as well - to my ears it appears to have been very heavily delayed, but it's still fairly unmistakeable.

  • GREAT!

  • Thanks :)

  • Tony's magic mixed with Steve's to make one hell of a unique sound.

  • puuurrrfect.

  • * * * * * (:D)

  • What he did was he ran it through a Leslie speaker.

  • Wow... I wondered for years what instrument this part was played on...

    Thanks :-)

  • the last note sounds like intro of "i know what i like"

  • I think Tony was using a Hohner Pianet (different than a clavinet) into a fuzz and amp. It's on many of the tracks in this period.

  • check out huge 1981 hit from Finland with the same tune: "Pelle Miljoona - Moottoritie on kuuma"

  • watch shepperton he turns down left to the MELLOTRON
