The International Spotlight featured the Guy Mendilow Band

This was their second number which features the berimbau, jaw harp and overtone singing.

The name of the song is "Experiment" and it is featured on their new album, Skyland (a preview of which one can hear at www.guymendilow.com/skyland.html)
The large bass drum sound on the video is the gourd of the berimbau thumping against Guy's stomach.

  • Hey Eva,

    Thanks for watching.

They've definitey got some cool stuff going on.

  • Wow, fun sounds! I kept expecting to see belly dancers though! :) Cool stuff.

  • :)

I imagine in some of the countries they perform they do get a little belly dancing in the audience.

Belly dancers are a bit sparce in the folk crowd. ;)

  • awesome! thanks for sharing this it has got me all revved up for our annual trip to Leeds festival in a couple of weeks. I love the mixture of music you get at these events introductions to bands that you might not otherwise get to see.

  • Hey Rich, Thanks for watching.

Yeah I've always enjoyed interesting mix you can get at these events as well. I wish Guy had made it to the workshop stage, they have other interesting instruments in their kit and sing in six(?) languages. Their first number was an appeal for peace sung in israeli and arabic.
