Thanks to the generosity of Colonna's Shipyard and other maritime friends, the Elizabeth River Project's Learning Barge just got a beautiful new coat of bottom paint and other donated maintenance - then "splashed" back into the water for fall field trips! Watch the video as Colonna's donates the splash via the world's largest travel lift (nicknamed "Tina").
Last week was the second anniversary of our floating wetland classroom, made possible by Dominion Virginia Power to teach all ages what they can do to make the Elizabeth "swimmble-fishable." Since her launch Aug. 25, 2009, she's hosted 17,840 visitors including 10,587 students! Fall field trips are almost full - email rdunbar@elizabethriver.org as soon as possible if your school is interested.
A BIG HUGE THANKS to Colonna's Shipyard, MHI Ship Repair, PPG Protective Marine Coating and Norfolk Tug for making possible the barge's first haul-out for bi-annual maintenance.
