Elixir guitar cable VS ordinary cheap cable
Fender Strat with Vintage Noiseless pups directly through a Mesa Subway Rocket. Just a change of cable muting with the stand by switch.

  • Thanks for doing this vid. You can certainly here the difference. I guess the cables you use DOES effect your tone a LOT! Looks like i'll be investing in a couple of these Elixir ones

  • It is obvious when you wait for the youtube red loading bar to complete, then you can easily switch from the first clean sound to the second. For the disto sound it is less obvious though but you can hear there is more power coming through the wire, as soon as I switch on the drive you can hear feedback.

  • i really appreciate when people do a comparison with products, really helps determine the differences, however i didnt notice near enough of a difference to justify the cost of the elixir cable. cables wont make a guy sound better anyways, his fingers will though, and practicing costs you nothing. but thanks for the video, very appreciated.

  • I think the elixir cable made the sound louder and bolder. I may have to invest in these cables. Thanks for the video.

  • @deapwavelio i don't know, i've never tried those two amps.

  • @wrigleyx What is better the Mesa Boogie subway Rocket or the fender blues jr?

  • @adrs2

OK,thanks for the info.I'm still learning about the effects of cable on tonality, looks like I'll have to look beyond the the obvious effect of capacitance and inductance as I'm learning that dynamics are affected too by things not yet understood.

  • @spentonmediocrity when You have a poor pickup there is nothing You can do, because pickup is loaded from the beginning and You have a resonnant peak below 1-2khz - something like tone pot on. cable capacitance can do good on a properly constructed pickup. Most of guitarist choose their pickups by empirical tests - so it's random - and the best are those with some flaws in construction -like scatterwound... bigger capacitance? It's good to know that Your pickup can be sometimes adjusted a bit

  • @spentonmediocrity and considering pickups - it's about coil winding and overall capacitance of the pickup. Every pickup has it's own electrical capacitance like a cable, which in fact kills treble a bit + MOVE RESONANT PEAK to the area of the mids. That's why it has a lot of mids. But a good pickup ( in terms of physics) has a resonnant pick pretty high - which enables You to play with this capacitive load - you can add a capactiro across signal and ground and emulate any frequency peak.

  • @spentonmediocrity sure, you can skip cable's resistive load, because it is like 1 ohm per normal cable in series. - that is nothing.while comparing to paralel 670k or 1Mohm load... You measure resistive load by input impedance combined with potentiometers load. So if you have 1M input 500k pot x2 its (1*0,5*0,5)/ (1+ 0,5+0,5) = 0,125Mohm = 125kohm so it's 10x pickup's load - that's ok. If you increase load - by lowering input resistance you will decrease ressonant pick in height + kill treble

  • @adrs2

How does cable resistance factor in considering the cable's resistance is nill compared to the pickup's 5-10k?

Also some pickups have an annoying upper mid/lower treble spike while lacking the sparkle when using higher capacitance cables.Low capacitance seems like a good idea in that case.

Also I'm curious to know what negative effect transparent sounding cables have on the bloom/attack of alnico magnets?EMG's sound "sterile" for their design as a whole.

    Can you clarify?Thanks.

  • Ive always bought planet waves because of their warranty but ive never compared them to any other i had just assumed that as they were a popular make they would be as good as anything else out there........Now im wondering ;0)
