Course Description
Environment 185A: Sustainable Living is a sub-division of the Education for Sustainable Living Program (ESLP). ESLP is a student designed, student developed, and student facilitated program offered through the Institute of the Environment. The Speaker Series brings guest speakers from UCLA and across the country to speak on specialized subjects including food systems, green business, organic gardens, sustainable living, the green economy, environmental justice and transportation. Speakers range from authors, professors, community activists, environmentalists, for and non-profit business representatives, and government officials.

Guest Speaker:
Glen MacDonald is a Professor of Geography and of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UCLA. He grew up in California and has attended or worked at universities in California, Canada and England. He is a biogeographer and teaches and conducts research on topics of climate change, drought, fire, vegetation dynamics, manenvironment interactions, environmental restoration and resource management. He conducts research in the Arctic regions Canada and Russia, the boreal forest of Canada, the western United States ‐ including California, Hawaii and West Africa. He has won numerous awards for his research, presented his results to scholars, the general public and print, radio and television media and testified before government bodies including the US Senate Appropriations Committee. He is an award winning teacher and speaker.
