Make a Loan, Change a Life: http://www.kiva.org

Kiva is the world's first person-to-person microlending website, enabling you to make a small loan to an entrepreneur, working their way out of poverty.

This is the video of Kiva entrepreneurs shown at Craig Barrett's keynote speech at the 2009 International CES, January 9 2009. The footage was shot by Kiva Fellow Nick Sabin in Sierra Leone. • They are very good borrowers actually because they are humble and disciplined, the rate is 95%+ payment every quarter for microlending. Plus this is a capitalistic kind of philanthropy, that lets them build their own businesses and jobs rather than just giving away charity money and letting warlords steal it like the UN was doing. Anyways you are lending for charitable reasons, not as a serious investment to make money, even though it is slightly profitable for you too!

  • No, this is giving them a fishing pole.

  • @MrApHowell Kiva is not a charity organization.

  • I support kiva.

I believe microfinancing is more effective of charity because I believe it helps develop good money management skills and work ethic.

Most borrowers on kiva have a very different attitude towards debt than Americans. I know one day, the borrowers will save enough money so they won't have to pay interest.

I encourage others to give. If not Kiva, then another cause you are passionate about. If not money, then time.

Together, we can make a world a better place.

  • Throw some money out the window. Send money to the Jews stuck in Russia. Loan some money to Haitians so they can have more children. How about I work real hard, save my money and then beg for some more on Kiva.

  • Clearly you miss the motivation behind this. Kiva makes nothing on these loans, the MFIs that work with the entrepreneurs charge a fraction of the loan sharks they're used to. The comparatively low interest rates go to fund these grassroots organizations that brought loans of such small amounts to them in the first place. When was the last time some dude in the Andes mountains that wanted to buy a cow of his own to milk could borrow $50 from a LOCAL bank?

  • Hello kivamicrofunds

I have to admit I am very impressed with the quality of your videos here on youtube.

They are certainly a pleasure to watch as I do enjoy them.

I am sure there is many others who also feel the same about your videos.
