If the show was sold out, it should be easy enough to figure out. I dunno about the past few years with the recession and all, but New York City in recent times was jam-packed with people trying to escape Middle America homogeny.  As a result, any third-rate entertainment act with the right angle was capable of selling out MSG. Witness bands like O.A.R. (before the twenty-something crowd latched onto them like lemmings to a cliff) and Dispatch (who?) selling out shows there.

"I have a degree, you know. From a proper university and everything." -- Must have been one of those corporate money mill universities as opposed to any place where you may have learned something. If you had been in the latter category, you probably wouldn't be worshiping an unfunny non-comedian like Dane Cook. I saw a Comedy Central special from Madison Square Garden. First thing that came to mind? Lack of house lights = lots of empty seats. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there.
