Texas House Reps. Legler, Dunnam and Gattis debate an amendment to SB 1569 that requires drug tests to be administered before individuals are eligible for unemployment insurance benefits. The amendment was later amended to study unemployment drug testing for the next two years, rather than adopt it into law. Footage comes from the House floor, May 21, 2009.

  • What Horse Shit! This is why Texas Republican are so completely off thier rockers. There are far far far too many right wing religous nut cases in this state. The average stupidity in this state has reached new level and I be the one getting the drug test would also have to pay for it. Out of the money that is given to them from UI that won't pay the rent and fed the kids and keep the electricuty on.

  • TX St Rep Ken Legler (R-Pasadena) proposes that workers who lose their jobs in the bad economy should take a drug test before getting unemployment insurance benefits. Then Rep. Legler suggests that the UI benefits workers earn are welfare.
