I can't say that I'm real impressed with the Captain model of Okuma. With the center work stainless steel shafts that I do it tends to be a real pain in the butt. The bigger Simulturn Okuma works better .. I have less trouble with it. The Captain is okay for smaller chuck work and smaller parts. Not my favourite machine though

quite true, however..that is only if the next place uses okuma's (hope to god they do, as they are pretty much the best machines out there) I personally do most of my programming offline, but I suppose there can be a certain value to using conversational for some simple and quick things.

Yes IGF is Okuma's conversational program writting. I can't really see the need to go to a computer to write a program when I can do it from the machine. Again this a very powerful, useful, time saving option in the machine control and I want to be able to use it. Besides it is a skill that I will be able to take with me when I move to greener pastures.

harley's are for rich suburban yuppies. As a small shop that is trying to get on its feet, I can't even fathom why he wouldn't want to grow his business. I take it ISP is some form of conversational? Why not just do your programming offline? Probably easier yes?

Yes the machine was bought new and I am sure that there was training by the distributor. The trainee was fired and I was his replacement. I have told the boss man the exact same thing and we continue to not fully utilize this machine's full range of capabilities. But he did just buy himself a new harley and his boy a new box trailer. See where his priorities are. He doesn't seem to want to grow his business which I can't figure out. So I am getting as much experince as I can and then moving on.
I run a okuma just like this, they are very nice machines and have a nice control too. Do you know how to use the "one touch IGF"? I have been trying to teach myself with the manual and not getting anywhere.

Yes, I do all my programing with the one touch IGF on the Okuma. The part that I'm running in this clip is just a simple adapter but I can use the IGF to program some complicated parts. The only thing that stops me from being able to make something is just not having the right tools in hand. What type of tooling do you have in your machine?

We have standard toolholders for the most part with one live tool holder that enables us to tap holes in the z axis. My boss is a bit cheap and is reluctant to spend money on more live tooling or any tooling for that matter. He has no idea how to use this machines IGF and really doesn't show any intrest in learning it, preferring the IGF of a couple older machines instead. I continue to push him to send me to some programming classes but he is reluctant. He is sending me to a free class in july.

Did the company you work for buy the machine new? Your company had training through our Okuma distributor and they set the IGF up to make it easy on us to program to our needs. Hopefully the class will help you out. You need to let the boss no that spending money on good tooling will only pay off in the long run!

Damn! My machine doesn't move that fast even if i turn it up to 200%, is this machine specialized in smaller details? No wonder these new CNC machines are so easy to crash.. ;)

I think the machine is kinda slow! It's just cutting copper in this clip, I'm not running the speeds and feeds that it should be. I need to put a new clip with the faster speeds.
