  • To everyone with the concern, the Kawasaki-built cars which replaced, in 1981, the older delapidated cars (which can be seen in the turnaround at Fern Rock TC) had a "ding-ding" sound for the door closure. Like most of the SEPTA infrastructure, which improvements are always hampered by suburban lawmakers (despite Gov. Rendell's being a Philly guy), SEPTA could only make upgrades to its existing system. Now for real comfort, try the C Train in NYC--they have brand spanking new cars.

  • Just for the record, The C train runs Budd R-32'sthe oldest car in the NYC Subway system. The Newer R-160A cars are on the E line!

  • @JBar387 The R160 trains can be found on the E, F, J, L, M, N, Q, and Z lines. There's a fairly similar train, called the R142, which runs on the 2, 4, 5, and 6 lines.

  • I am in town for the holiday weekend and was riding on leading car 514 today from Walnut-Locust to Olney T.C. at around 5:30pm and I heard the BSL's new automated announcement system. The new system includes the same beeps, but now with "Doors are closing." All station stops are updated and sound a bit like the MFL announcements, but are more robotic.

I am guessing that the new voice will take effect over time since I rode earlier today and heard the same 'ole "Daws Closing" voice.

  • @sonicboy678 mantinence failure, and the cars roof's were falling apart. Not to mention the brakes falied X_X

  • this is oregoon station tasker is all green ellsworth federal is blue and lombard south is all red

  • @JBar387 Thank you for clearing that up. It's funny, though. The R38s were decommissioned before the R32s. What's up with that?

  • Either oregon or tasker depending on which way the train is going

  • where is that? Oregon?

  • I rode the Broad Street line. I thought it was weird to hear Daws closing every time the doors closed. After a week I thought that was the operator but turns out its the automated voice announcement system. Which is unusual to hear from an automated voice announcement system. And as old as the Broad Street line cars are I thought there was no voice announcement system.
