Hey guys, Andrea Rene here for Clevver Games with the announcement of the nominees of the 12th annual Game Developers Choice Awards. The GDCAs are put on every year at the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco and this year's award show honors some of the best and brightest in gaming from 2011.

Three studios tied for the most nominations, Bethesda for Skyrim, Valve for Portal 2, and indie studio Supergiant Games for breakout hit Bastion. Game of the Year had some interesting selections and some predictable ones. Skyrim and Portal 2 are matched up again but have some competition from Rocksteady's Batman Arkham City, Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and FromSoftware's Dark Souls.

Best Handheld or Mobile Game has some really tough competition with 8-bit star Tiny Tower, 3DS giant Super Mario 3D Land, iPad stars Infinity Blade II and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery, and dark horse Jetpack Joyride.

Best Downloadable Game has Stacking, From Dust, Bastion, Outland, and Frozen Synapes duking it out and the best technology category will be steep as well with the combat beauty of Battlefield 3, the motion capture of L.A. Noire, the 3D spectacle of Crysis 2, the all out gorgeousness of Uncharted 3, and the wonderment that is Skyrim all competing for a win.

Needless to say, 2011 was a great year for games but with 500 industry professionals voting I'm sure only the best games will win. You can find a complete list of all categories and nominees by clicking the link below and I'll report back on the winners from GDC 2012 in March.

@Tehbestshot When comparing Skyrim to all top major contenders - the glitches and bugs in Skyrim are far more problematic and consistent than any other of those games. In fact, Skyrim glitches have became famous because of how consistent they are. Bethesda have tried releasing multiple patches for the game and even then players have had problems with the game. I am calm. It's you who's getting upset because I challenged your opinion. That's your opinion because you're a fan boy.

@Fiddlestickz1 Indeed, it is hard to listen to Weekend Confirmed in public when she guests on it because of trouser tent related incidents.

@RGonzX10 If you can use Catwoman correctly, you'll clear a room twice as fast as Robin can. She's faster than any other character. Her velocity and agility proves that.

@RGonzX10 I enjoyed Catwoman. She's a brilliant playable character. Her gymnastics and whip make for great use and she can gather more points in the fighting challenge maps than any other character thanks to her agility and velocity. Catwoman may be weaker than any of the other characters and does not have the amount of gadgets as other characters have but she proves she doesn't need them. I can take out more guys quicker when playing as Catwoman than I can with Batman!

@aidenmccloskey yeah and it didnt add much :P and personally, I thought catwoman was just bad. I mean, she is weak and doesnt have as many gadgets as batman or robin :P

@RGonzX10 I was satisfied with the hours of content it contained. Arkham City is actually a longer game than Arkham Asylum. If it took you three hours to complete you must have really rushed through it. Do you have the Catwoman pack?

You're right, Andrea! The year 2011 was a great year for great games. I have played L.A. Noire, Modern Warfare 3, and Mortal Kombat (all awesome games) but I have yet to play Batman, Skyrim, Battlefield, etc.
