I want to grow out my grass pasture and just cut it when its long, then dry it out on clean cement in the sun and use that for hay for my show and meat rabbits. ;) I can't use our alfalfa pasture as the hay is to rich in protein and will cause kidney failure in rabbits.

Nice set-up!

i wouldn't suggest feeding too many fruits and vegetables to rabbits. It can upset their stomach and give them diarrhea. Usually the only time I feed them anything like that is for does nursing kits. One or two carrots a day until the kits come out of the nest box. Also the show rabbits get a raisin or two and sometimes a small slice of banana. Other than that, I would refrain from anything but pellets and hay.

I like what you have done here? Any problems with the wood holding up outside?

@txdurk Since this video was taken I have painted the hutches to help ensure they hold up in the weather.

You have a very nice setup! Your rabbits look very happy and healthy, most meat rabbit breeders give rabbits poor conditions but you have a nice place for them!

@vaughtlindsey Thank you for your nice comment. When we expand our rabbitry I hope to do larger cages for my breeding does and move my bucks into the current does cages. I want my rabbits to be as happy and healthy as possible.

I wouldn't feed large quantities but every other day or so I give my rabbits a liitle something. I give them grass, tops off the carrots i eat, radish tops, apple slices. Every rabbit is different so just give small amounts until you see how the rabbit does. Probably the reason someone told you not too is because large quanitities can give rabbits diahrea and that can be deadly. So start small and try a few things with your rabbits.

your setup you got their i wish i had that big of a yard to do that with my rabbits but for now bugsbunny gets out for about 1 hour for a run an play time and to eat grass. he is only 11 weeks old right now he hasn't got the idea of eating the hay quiet yet but he will get the hang of it.
should i give my buck carrots at this age or should i wait until he is 2 to 3 months old i have herd you could kill a 11 week old rabbit by giving him veggies at this age. but i don't know.

@clydester124 Thanks for the comments. I do feed my babies a limited amount of vegetables including carrots but it makes up a very small percentage of their diets. I want them to learn to eat fresh foods. Some rabbits I have purchased from other breeders will not always eat fresh fruits and vegetables so I introduce it early to my rabbits to ensure they will take it later. We are very blessed to have a large yard. Good luck with your breeding.
