i wish more non-FN candians would learn about all the other cultures. i took the time to learn some stuff, still watching videos now. i know how to say "cow" in Cree and "hello" i think, or maybe its "welcome" i dunno. non-first nation ppl like me ask new comers to canada how to say swear words in their language. i dunno of any asking first nations ppl how to swear in cree or anyother FN language. we better start doing it. NOW. this is not hate mail so dont say it is.
...all dilapidated? lol its so bizarre. i guess its cuz the houses are free, they know they just get a new one. that's probably y. let them have something like a mortgage or have them build their own homes with habitat or something. its a simple psychological thing, if you work on something or own something, you take care of it better. i never look after anything i get for free, i don't care about it because i didn't pay for it.
...ctd from previous. the FN houses were still in bad shape though with backyards that looked like parking lots or used car dealership. i saw a lot of new looking homes, condemned as i walked through that area to tim hortons in duncan, a town with lots of places to work, and nice schools...the chief's house (sign by driveway said chief, i assume he was a chief, or she) was really nice and well kept, beautiful new home.i know alot of them do work, in construction and that, but y r the houses...
...ctd from previous, didnt know about the tribal travels by canoe. i guess the whole west coast participates in it? as far south as washington in the u.s anyway. beautiful canoes they have. when they pull into a village they sing a song. when they leave the village gives them permission for a safe trip, where ever they're going. i like duncan alot, theres first nations and non-FN people living right next to each other. my freinds house at one end of the rd, FN houses at the other end......ctd
oh 2nd lastly, i saw a video of the home coming they had for u in Ahouset, it was on youtube. i had no idea celebrations like that, happened, and also the welcome totem raising ceremony.i was just learning about their culture when i saw it.Also i didnt know about the visiting of different tribes by canoe that happens every year. ive been to vancouver island.to Cowichan bay and duncan and to the Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Centre a few years ago. learned alot there but...to be ctd..
habitat builds nice homes too, small, but nice and they would be finished houses with drywall on the walls! and hardwood floors! if they wanted our style house....they could probably build with lumber treated with chemicals that prevent mold, they could also learn how to fix a mold problem that starts, and get rid of it before it spreads and how to fix other things in a house like plumbing and electrical!!
Watchay (hello in james bay cree) im from halifax though. first nations should get together with habitat for humanity and build their own homes. maybe even homes that they design, homes sort of like the traditional log cabin homes they used to build in the area around attawapiskat before us bloody Europeans came along. imagine how much more pride they'd have at OWNING a home they and their neighbors made and were like traditional houses instead of looking like our boring wooden box style.
