I liked the second counter better than the first simply because the technique on the scissor sweep was terrible. The scissor guy was not getting Roy's hips over his. I doubt I could fall back before my own center of gravity got displaced by a good sweep. The second counter seems to go in the direction the sweeper is already pulling.

My partner's technique was fine. My hips don't have to be fully over his hips, you just need to tip me forward by pulling with the arms. I can't be sitting on my heels for the sweep to work, I have to be off-balanced (kuzushi) slightly to the front.
