I think depression and loss are essential feelings in life. To be embraced. To hell with cbt and medication. Love is the cure. Love again ASAP. Best wishes to this lady.

CBT is ephemeral

Not unless your name is Peter White, Simon Wessely, Michael Sharp and the rest of the Wessely school who have too much influence on the subject of ME. They all claim to cure ME as they ignore the 2,000+ peer reviewed studies that show ME is Physical, and teach it is abnormal sickness behaviour that needs to be changed by CBT. The study they use to back up the use of CBT has been shown to be deeply flawed. Unfortunately these men had too much influence in the NICE guidelines.

No one is suggesting CBT is a cure for ME. It is used to augment other treatments and help patients maximise their ability to function. Whether patients choose to use it or not is another matter.

There is a big focus on CBT. I am finishing up my graduate studies in Rehab and Mental Health counseling and I would have to say that most of my peers all favor CBT. You rarely see someone who says they favor Gestalt or Rogers. DBT is also very popular right now. I feel that it is my duty as a professional to be knowlegeable about these theories but try to not side myself with any particular one.

lol I think it's one person who disagree with cbt :p CBt is proven to be effective towards depression. When Depression effects one's life it's certainly a serious matter. Drugs alone cannot get rid of the ailment

Referred as opposed to prescribed? Fair enough. But considering the channel is called "NHS Choices", the only treatments seemingly available for M.E. from the NHS are psychiatric in origin. Funny that. At a conference earlier this year in East Anglia, Prof Mick Cooper said "It is scientifically irresponsible to continue to imply and act as though CBTs are more effective, as has been done in justifying the expenditure of £173m to train CBT therapists throughout England".

it has nothing to do with depression .Its about attitude beleives and behavior
-
there is your forgeting MI and reflective practise to name a couple
Might have something to do with CBT being prescribed for illnesses/conditions that it is (no pun intended) ill-suited for, the most obvious case being M.E.. This autumn, a Judicial Review will look at the prescribing of CBT to patients with M.E., an illness that has been deemed neurological for nearly forty years. CBT is being promoted by the government at the expense of proper physiological research and treatment into M.E.
