6233 Duchess of Sutherland "The End For Now" 16Oct2010

6233 Duchess of Sutherland at Kings Cross and departing on her last rail tour after ten years of running on the main line. 6233 was positioned directly under an isolator above her lifting safety valve, taking temperatures on the overhead wires way up, so much so that arcing began and concerned footplate crew & police moved all of us wisely out of range from a posibility of exploding porcelaine!I left camera running while we all rapidly moved to a safe distance from the loco, sorry about the chaos but left it in to save complicated editing! Eventually a green was given and 6233 moved off in to the night, heading to Derby and a last charge on the East Coast main line.
The smoke box was nicely adorned with 1968 style graffiti and buffers reading-The End! Don't those maroon MK1 carriages look fabulous leaving Kings Cross just like when I was there as an eleven year old!

Please tell me that she's coming back in Crimson ..... Black is ok on 5's and 8Fs, but Duchesses should be Crimson Lake!
