  • @TheIridescentDreamer Actually, philologists and linguists specializing in historical linguistics know almost exactly how Latin was pronounced at any period in its history, through the combination of evidence from all the modern Romance languages and ancient grammarians themselves. The reconstructed pronunciation that he used is absolutely more accurate for Classical Latin than the ecclesiastic/"Italianate" pronunciation the Catholic Church uses, which essentially pronounces Latin like Italian.

  • @BramowitchIII I utterly agree with you when you say that it's a very complexe language. However I confirm what dabozzcrg said, it's possible to speak it without preparation, even if it's not as well as our mother language, mostly if yours is a romance language and that you master it very well. It's the case for me, mine is French and I speak/write it with no mistakes at all(or almost).I'm learning Latin a little bit and I can be sure it's possible to speak it almost fluently and almost nomistakes.

  • @Generalvaldez sad, but true!

  • @glitch509 ''Romanian isn't an easy language to learn. It's vocabulary is mostly latin and the grammar is slavic.'' - who told you that?! do you have a PhD?!...are you insane?! i'm a native romanian and I can assure you that the grammar isn't slavic...search romanian language on Wikipedia...you must have bought your diploma...

  • @dyaakov no shit....italian is modern latin

  • @KILLER6232 penus meus ab femina erectus fit. but yeah... thumbs up... i get it haha

  • @dyaakov HUEHUEHUEHUE because latin is an Italic language.

  • i only have about six months of latin and about 25% of what he says is intelligible. Meaning i can understand about 25% of what he says, so i'm assuming with 2-3 years worth of latin it would be possible to have 100% comprehension. I think that in the video he's speaking VERY well, but you can also tell that he's laboring somewhat, and has to think about what he's saying. but that would be the case in any language.

tl;dr - language is hard, and he's doing an amazing job at it.

  • "what have the romans ever done for us?" "romans go home!!"

  • @dabozzcrg Latin is as you most certainly know a very complex language. It is hard enough to write latin withouth any grammatical errors, mistakes, etc. Maybe some, a few, can improvise so good that it makes an impression on a amateur. Also I dont understand that speaking latin is the summum of genious. It isnt. It is frankly quite useless but for showing of.

  • @BramowitchIII The pope reads most stuff from a piece of paper... It's just an question of effort & training, like in any other language. Sure you will never be able to speak a foreign language like your mother language, but conversations without preparation are surly possible. I can't see a reason why it should not be like that.
