This video will help six-string guitar players understand how the bass fret board is easy to map using a similar octave concept used by guitarists.

Learn the notes on the neck through geometrical octave shapes that are easy to play, and relate to any note.

  • i hope theres more stuff comming...

  • Hi Jed9133...

You BET there's going to be more bass on the way !!!

In fact, we'll be posting another bass lesson on Friday Oct. 30, 2009 !!!

    Thanks for watching,

    Andrew W.

  • I'm maily a bass player, so I'm interested to see how u cover my topic ;)

What effects were on that bass? Wherever you played past the 12th on G you had some nice echo kick in -- how did you get this?

Also, it's really interesting to see how you play the bass. I have a friend who's a master of keyboard, but also dables in bass + gutiar, and he uses the same "guitar fingerpicking" style as you. I might practice that in adition to the standard. Does it require lighter strings?

  • further to this, I should say that I find it amusing that people need these videos: On a 4 string it's the same as a guitar really. I suppose that guitarists don't practice chord approach and linear sequences as much as bassists (unless they're practicising wild guitar solos ;)). I just bought a gutiar: It's much harder to go from a 4 (or worse, 5) string bass to a 6 string guitar. That major 3rd B string really fucks with my mind. I'm thinking of tuning to EADGCF. Bad idea at this stage?

  • Reply to iwantagoodnameplease,

The effects used are from a Zoom pedal & include chorus, delay, reverb. My bass fingerpicking is a mish-mash of taking my classical guitar training and doing my best at "adapting" it to the bass. No lighter strings required. The main request for this video had to do with mapping the fretboard and learning lines around arpeggios. The 4-string bass is quite a different landscape to most guitarists... hopefully this short series will help end "roots only" bass lines!

  • Hi "iwantagoodnameplease"...

A new bass video will be posted on YouTube Friday Oct. 30, 2009.

This time around, we've got a guest instructor - bassist "Steve Silver," (he has studied with both Victor Wooten & Stu Hamm), to come by the studio and go through a number of right-hand concepts!

    Hope you can tune in!

It's going to be a great video lesson.

    Thanks for watching,

    Andrew W.

  • It was good! Very bass-ic

  • Hi, Andrew, I looked on your website after watching this video for the bass handouts you were talking about and I can't seem to find them. I look forward to more bass video's. this was helpful but it would also help me if you would show all these patterns up close and slow them down a little bit. I have a hard time trying to figure out what you are playing at a fast pace. thanks again..

  • Lol, practice practice practice!

  • Reply to twinguitarproduction,

Yes, certainly both hands for technique are going to be covered in this series.

    Thanks for watching,

    Andrew W.
