Latest video showing off the indie PC strategy game 'Gratuitous Space Battles' by Positech Games. The game is based on the concept of Design Deploy Destroy. You design spaceships from modular components, place them into fleets which you deploy with battle orders and formations, and then you watch your fleet kick stellar ass or get blown to bits. You can play against AI fleets, or against fleets designed and deployed by fellow GSB players and uploaded to a central server.

  • if you wait until it's out, it'll be more expensive. You'll get the final version and all the other updates free if you preorder the game.

  • Looks sweet. Music is good, but recommend showing off more of the weapon/explosion sound FX too (e.g. listen to your repair drone demo 29th sep).

Any chance of a HD version - I don't think even the "HQ" at 640x360 is doing your game anywhere near justice!

Agree on the painful ship placement sound.

  • my pc is windows 7 home premium

  • it was true when I posted the comment :P

  • @hybrinoid not always true. Buy it from steam. They often have deal weekends for games. I purchased the game for 25 with expansions. Then next week the game had a 75% off sale. So I bought it for my brother for 6.25 with expacs.

  • One of the best presentation of a game i have ever seen.Gui, Variety, plot, graphic, music, gameplay...everything is shown in 1,5 minutes.

  • The graphics are great though, and the sounds are pretty decent too, it was a fairly pretty game to look at and atmospheric too.

There needs to be a much more indepth option for ship orders in the precombat phase though i think. Waypoints, weapon target lists, ability to switch between ranges depending on if your weapons are ineffective, or telling a ship that only has long range weapons not to ever fly directly towards a ship that has only short range weapons...

  • I played the demo, the graphics were nice, it was annoying not to be able to zoom out fully though, and sometimes ships would fly off screen and you couldnt go view them.

Not being able to control a 1 on 1 battle in the demo was a bit of a bummer, it would have been nice to see how certain weapons behaved against an enemy of known loadout.

My real complaint was the poor AI, and orders settings, often my ships would wander into the enemy fleet needlessly when they could both outrun and snipe..

  • Who did the music? Same guy that worked on Mount & Blade? Lol.

  • Just bought the game from Impulse. The beta is a lot of fun! Looking forward to the release of the full game!!
