This is an interesting and incrediably beautiful song for some reason conjures up images of canals, clogs, dimly lit streets in Rotterdam and golden brown warm colours of Amsterdam. I am remindered of the wide open spaces of the zuiderzee and Van Gough.

This has an interesting history since I remember seeing it on YouTube in late September and thinking I just had to learn this song there and then. The upload represents three hours of intense practise trying to get it right, and found the song too unfold and enrich with each practise run. What's even more remarkable is that through internet research I found it was written Michael Peter Smith in about 1972 and made famous by Steve Goodwin. That was nearly 35 years ago and for all my musical experiences I have never once heard this beautiful song. How could that be...

  • @ichingiching There is an artistry to telling a story in song to make you feel you are there. Years ago I used to visti an elderly Dutch woman at the nursing home where I worked. She would tell me tales of her homeland and show me photos of her home in Amsterdam and tell stories of her youth. I always felt like I had actually been to Amsterdam and walked along places she knew. Your song reminded me of this lovely lady.

  • the song is one of the most beautiful .. its understated and poignant .. glad you stopped by on your travels

  • When I'm rambling I always stop by your channel I am never disappointed. Your D-41 is wonderful, but it's your performance of this wonderful folk song that reveals the artist you are.

  • hi nispen .. thats kind.. thank you..
