Once nearly extinct, California condors are making a steady recovery. But a new threat - lead poisoning from old bullets - is slowing progress, leaving scientists to struggle with the passionate collision between wildlife preservation and the politics of hunting.
what's a good load to use when hunting condors? i've heard that #8 is good but i've had good luck with #6. plus, it's a big bird so bigger shot, right?

Why not keep hunters out of the area? I think the "hunter" is a poser probably paid by an ammo manf. Hunters are not the problem poachers are. Hunters leave very little carrion in the field when they hunt under the outdoors person's code but this should be of no concern since hunters shouldn't be in the flying range of these birds anyway.

As a resident of Ca loosing the condor sucks. But I really don't think banning lead ammo would help. The amount of hunting taking place in the range of the CA condor can't be that high. Therefore we can assume that the amount of carrion containing lead would be pretty small. It was mentioned that 15 free flying condor died of lead poising since 92 I wonder how many died of other causes. Also all the pollution the bay area produces surley isn't helping.

because of some morons hunters people cant see a nice bird like this flying around the cliffs etc... cause they over hunt things just for fun not even eating them and even if the bird are becoming extinct they still continue to hunt it it sucks hope they die in horrible way for doing these bad things

The condor looks like the common turkey vulture found on every highway anywhere there is roadkill.

because of hunters millions of species are endangered and its just wrong and if species keep going extinct at the current rate experts say 50% of the worlds species will be extinct withing 100 years
