The philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein spent four months at the coastguard's cottage at Rosroe, Killary Fjord, Connemara in 1948 which he called 'the last pool of darkness on the edge of Europe' A fact not often shared with philosophy students is that to amuse himself in the dark evenings Wittgensein took to playing the ukulele. Unfortunately the esteemed philosopher only had the sheet music for a handful of Strauss waltzes as Lennon and McCartney two local boys from the peat bogs had yet to pen Eight Days A Week.
