i'm trying to figure out live v.5 at the moment, and it's so different i can't quite get my head around it, like learning to fly a submarine....

no question it's revolutionary but a lot of people think that it's taken the skill out of djing and don't like it for that reason.

there's a huge difference of v.5 and v.8 , actually its not do so difficult compare to other software and if you attend even for one time free workshops from ableton you get it right away the basic operations .

I don't agree that it 's taken out the skill of Djing .....for me it's still the person behind it who's really making the music .Softwares,hardwares, synths,turntables , etc.. they are just tools that will help out to enhance your creativity and goes beyond the imagination...

@FindingNinoKawasaki ............i totally agree, ableton should be used for producing tunes not live mixing... Mixing should be left to a mixer with a couple turntables or cdj's..... Seeing a DJ mix with decks is much more interesting and would keep me in the club longer, rather than seeing him work off a laptop.

i bought the suite version to and i am really happy with it also bought the ableton live orchestrall library thats also awsome but now i really want a dubstep drum and bass pack for ableton live :)

@VPofVP Why is it so much better to jockey discs than it is files? In the end, you are just producing audio. I think computers give the user even more opportunities for live playing; if you are playing your own track you have control over so many elements of the sound, like the various synth parameters.

there is no possible way using a computer will ever be as good or have the same potential as really dj'ing

a "dj" by definition would simply be one who jockey's discs, "pulling up" a couple files and auto sync'ing would on its best day be an "fj" or file jockey, its about the music so if that's what YOU need to do to sound better then by all means DO IT!!
