This object is a bronze memorial plaque created by the Hoover Vacuum Company—a maker of vacuum cleaners formerly headquartered in North Canton, Ohio—honoring Hoover employees who served in World War II. The Intermuseum Conservation Association (ICA) was contacted to give an opinion about the monument by the North Canton Heritage Society. It was determined conservation was needed before it could be relocated to a North Canton park.

ICA staff stripped a previous lacquer coating and repatinated the object before applying a fresh coat of wax. The videos show two steps in the process. In the first video, ICA Objects Conservator Mark Erdmann heats the bronze with a propane torch before applying a chemical commonly known as liver of sulfur. In the second video, Erdmann and ICA Preparator Jason Byers buff the surface with bronze wool to achieve highlighted areas, and wash with water.
