It was a good idea to put the island to good uses rather than waste. In fact the aussie officials should have chosen to built such temp settlements in Indonesia 'cos they got lotsa land, bid land and islands. that would discourage illegal immigrants, better still impose a caning punishment like some Asian countries.

They were charged for being there & the ones who we let in r skilled workers (we have a huge skill shortage which is why we tend to sell our inventions overseas or just sell our resources instead of doing what America & Japan do i.e. turn them into cars & electronics etc we will eventually run out of resources like Iron Ore or they'll use something else) Funny how brainwashed peop get as we didnt seem to mind bef bush & Howard, only real aussies r Aboriginies anyway as rest of us r immigrants.

Think about it, america & co-olition forces bomb their country, they flee so their children can live, were told we were peaceful, democrattic & accept different nationalities. But came to hell ! There are no planes that come here from some countries. Also these Refugees are coming from many other parts of the world, our media show Iraq & Afganistan but there are many countries with bad governments but those 2 have oil. New Zealanders have been allowed in no questions asked (lots of Mauries etc)
