@BP3DP You fail in so many ways. Or was your comment in some ways satirical? The William Tell play was written by Friedrich von Schiller. The opera is part of Gioachino Rossini's works. So, no Wagner here my friend. Wagner died 1883. Founding of the Nazi party was around 1920. So he was an antisemite, not a nazi. A disputeworthy point, but one should focus on his musical impact.
Italians did not hate Jews? I think, I heard about a guy named Benito Mussolini. He was a baaad guy.

most Americans are more familiar with 1950's TV than they are with Grand Opera. You get the same thig now with the Django Rheinhardt classic, "Belleville" - a lot of people, upon hearing it, say, "Hey, that's the theme from (the video game) Mafia!"
