  • Astonishing colors!! A tribute to oils on wood.

Is your 'Deft' mix similar the well known Tung(or lineseed) oil+turpentine+polyurethane mix? And what do you use to seal the endgrain? I have some trouble getting an nice uniform layer on soaky endgrain.

  • These island pines are totally different than a North American pine, that could be part of why you get a different reaction with the oils. We do nothing to stabilize the Norfolk & Cook from here in hawaii.. Check out my website at Koajoel.com and i've got more info there too.. Esquibel Wood Shop ...Aloha's

  • yes....they are Volvanos ! Tom Alexander right?! I happen to have a mango/koa boomba!! He does great work. Which brings me to a question on finishes, does he also go through a 6 step process with oil and deft thane in order to get his drums so perfectly shiny?! Sorry to talk about something other than your video but since we're already in contact thru this...:-)

  • lol.. well i can tell you, it appears to be a hard coat finish, its like glass and it looks deep! I don't know for sure whats used but i will find out. I'm 99% sure its not a build up finish like oil. I'll get info from Elmer, Aloha's!!
