A small collection of bugs and glitches from DooM 2 (v1.666). I made videos for over NINE HOURS today, and I broke my record filesize-wise. 194,7 MByte. The best thing: My MacBook went into standby while I already uploaded 110+ MByte. This sucks ass!!
Unfortunately, DOSBOX' output is very poor in contrast, and the M4V export made it even worse, but it is still enjoyable.
One awesome video! I give you 5+

@XenoSpyro It really does. But it's just a total work of 2 minutes if you know how to. If you are not so familar with the whole matter, it may take some time. Anyways, I hope you will reach your goal. Wait some days and try / google again, you may be more lucky then.

@NoMac90 that just sounds too complicated, nevermind

@XenoSpyro Well, if you are satisfied with the instrument set DooM uses (I am assuming that because you said "DooM" in the same context), you could do this: (check RANDOM MIDIS IN DOOM - ICE CAP ZONE). Get MIDI2MUS, DOSBOX and XWE. Use DOSBOX and MIDI2MUS to create a .MUS file from that MIDI (It should not be very long or use many channels). Use XWE to replace an existing music file or create a new WAD, insert the MUS, name it d_e1m1 for DooM or d_runnin for DooM 2 and start the game.

@NoMac90 One of the things I want to do is play the Through the fire and flames MIDI through the SoundBlaster format on Duke3D. But the filesize is too big. Anything over 100kb wont play on Duke.

Soundfonts are used with Wavetable Synthesizer. They are, as the name suggests, waveform-patches. It's possible to create new instruments, like "instructions" for the FM chip to play a certain sound while a WAV form is .. "prerendered and unchangable audio". It's done and just played back unlike that FM stuff. The soundfont on the XBLA is just some Synthesizer. Since there are thousands, I can't tell. I have my own collection of sf2-files to play MIDIs in VLC, they all sound better^^

@breadrack Sorry but I dont know anything about the creators of the songs, other than Lee Jackson made a few for Duke3d as well as a remake of grabbag.

@XenoSpyro I think you mean 'patch set' and yes it's very possible since Robert Prince and Robert Lee worked in tandem on the soundtrack. Prince also worked on the doom soundtrack as you surely know. I can see why 3D Realms put him on the team - after his work with Doom's beautiful atmospheric music I can see why!

@NoMac90 I've always called it "instruments" which leading to being corrected to call it "sound fonts".
So last question cuz im getting out of hand. Any idea what synth/font/instruments being used on the XBLA version of Duke3d and Doom?
XenoSpyro 1 month ago
@XenoSpyro There are no "soundfonts" in that matter. They both use the OPL2 (YM2812) chip as synthesizer. You probably mean "instrument set". No, they sound very different. Wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem 2 use the same, probably because they use the same file format (*.IMF) But DooM and Duke 3D use different "instruments", but the same "synthesizer".
