Howest University College and Flemish Aerospace Group organised workshops and activities in September 2011, such as launching weather balloons, at the airport in the West-Flemish city of Wevelgem. The various workshops had one main goal: persuading young people to choose a technical education - because the industry is desperate for technically-schooled employees.

The cherry on the cake of the workshop-day was a visit by Frank 'Viscount' De Winne. He is Belgium's second person in space, and the first European astronaut to command a space mission. He served as commander of ISS Expediton 21.
