  • Hi,

I grew up caigavon,my whole life, I have a Masters degree and I am now a journalist, living and working in London, I am also a freelance foreign correspondent am married and am a Muslim!!!!!! I've been to Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Columbia, Brazil etc and Craigavon is not so bad. People get trapped in their own minds, not their home towns. I understand your point though.

  • Nice one glad to hear you're doing well where did you live?? The real point I am making here is what many people don't realise. Craigavon is certainly not the worst place to grow up. My point is that we often put up with bad conditions by comparing them to other places and therefore make 'bad' acceptable.

It's kinda subtle but many people don't catch it because they focus on the fact I am talking about a particular place when in reality this could be anywhere.

  • Oh yer makin me cry...you could give you people Heaven and you'd still be bitchin...yer chronically UNHAPPY !!!

  • Try growing up here it's lovely! :)

  • I sympathize with you, but it is really the quality of residents and their behaviour that make a community worth living in or NOT. Is it not possible to move to a better area, or say, County Kerry ?

  • I did move to somewhere worse!!! Moving is not the point the point is that in a modern western society with more than enough wealth to go round that places like these even exist.

  • Load a bull.

  • I moved there from Lisburn when I was 4. Started out in Legahory and then Drumglass circa 1972. Went to Tullygally primary school. Craigavon only went to shit when thugs started vandalizing the empty brand new homes that were unoccupied. It could have been a good place. It is what you make of it. Every home in Drumglass was occupied and so it was a pleasant place, but Legahory which was just across the road was known for trouble.

  • Dis place is a freaking scumbag even drumbeg nd im fukin growin up in that Shithole.

  • very powerful and also could be said about most of this isle mores the pitty

  • That's an excellent poem.

  • Your poems are fucking amazing and hard hitting!! :) I'm a craigavonite aswell!

  • I agree, but these deplorable situations are not going to change anytime soon. If I were stuck in a pile of shite, I 'd move as far as I had to to change my circumstances. I myself am poor, but I am miles happier than all the more affluent people I know. I think a lot of "poverty" is just a state of mind.
